Grand Canyon is Worth The Drive

from Rustic Luxury Cabins as your Basecamp

it's so worth your Bucket List!

Grand Canyon – you just can’t explain it. You have to experience the Grand Canyon for yourself! This sounds like strange advice, but grab your phone. Trust me, as a commercial photographer with 15 years of professional experience, unless you’ve arrived on that perfect day: not windy, deep blue skies and thick, low cumulus clouds hanging just off the horizon to the West AND you remembered a polarizer and a tripod, just stick with your phone’s camera.

I almost let $20 at the Ranger's gate come between me and the marvels of the Grand Canyon

There was no way I was happy about paying the park entrance fee, but after the drive from Phoenix, I couldn’t disappoint my 10 year old during Christmas break. (He planned to write a report about the canyon and wildlife when he returned to school.)

As I mentioned, I got paid well to capture images and draw people’s emotions in… stir a nostalgic feeling in them that would transport them to another time in their lives. The minute we exited the car, I realized those aspirations don’t apply to the Grand Canyon. Plus:

  • if Ansel Adams and Robert Weston hadn’t captured what took my breath away on first glance, I may as well leave my camera in the car.
  • If you’ve made it to Arizona and to Pine, you absolutely must spend 2 days and make your way to one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World
the Grand Canyon really is Magnificent!
  • OK I did take a few family shots and establishing shots to record the fact that we were there
