WORTH AN ENTRY ON THE BUCKET LIST! Grand Canyon You just can’t explain it. You have to experience the Grand Canyon for yourself! Grab your phone.

If you’ve made it to Arizona and to Pine, you have to spend 2 days and make your way to one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. Because the Grand Canyon really is! You can look at pictures and videos of rafters, pick out landmarks from aerial helicopter views, but you will not understand the depth of your feelings and your awe until you’ve stood along the cliffs of the canyon and looked a mile down to the Colorado River, and all the way across to the other side.

The Grand Canyon

Trust me, as a photographer with 15 years of professional experience, unless you’ve arrived on that perfect day: not windy, deep blue skies, and thick, low cumulus clouds hanging just off the horizon to the West and you remembered a polarizer and a tripod, just stick with your phone camera.

There was no way I was happy about paying the park entrance fee, but after the long drive, I couldn’t disappoint my 10 year old during Christmas break. (He planned to write a report about the canyon and wildlife when he returned to school.) As I mentioned, I got paid well to capture images and bring people into them… stir an emotion in them that could transport them to another time in their lives. The minute we exited the car, I realized that:

  1. I can’t believe $20 almost came between me and NOT driving through the gate at the Ranger Station to experience this. I did take a few family shots and establishing shots to record the fact that we were there, but if Ansel Adams and Robert Weston hadn’t captured what took my breath away on first glance, I may as well leave my camera in the car.
  2. If you’ve made it to Arizona and to Pine, you absolutely must spend 2 days and make your way to one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.
  3. The Grand Canyon really is Magnificent!
