Description

Driving across the creek and up the hill to Strawberry Stargazer is reminiscent of 🎼 “Over the River and Through the Woods, To Grandmother’s House We Go…” 🎼

Our log cabin is located on a private gravel road on the north side of Strawberry mountain, with the valley below and the mountain behind the house. It’s peaceful and quiet; you’ll rarely see a car go by and almost never anyone walking by. It’s surrounded by tall pines, junipers, and oaks.

When it rains or when snow is melting, the creek flows over the little bridge on the road. It’s a quick walk down to it, and a short steep walk back up!

The cabin is airy and light, with many amenities to make your stay memorable! Tall ponderosa pines, oak, and juniper trees surround the lot. It’s lush and green in the summer, yellow and orange in the fall, and opens up the views in the winter when the leaves are gone. It’s a joy to stay here if you love solitude and privacy.

MAIN FLOOR
There is one large bedroom next to the full bathroom on the main floor, with a top-rated Helix king bed, an adjustable stand-up desk and printer, a 6-drawer dresser, and a large closet with shelves and hangers. Plush robes are provided.

There is a spacious and well-stocked kitchen with an induction stovetop (cooks like gas, but faster and less heat), a microwave, and a big refrigerator with a built-in water pitcher and makes 2 ice cubes. It has a large island that makes it easy for you all to pitch in and prepare meals together.

Connected to the kitchen is the living room, which has the most amazing chalet window looking out to the forest. It has comfortable seating, a big Roku TV, and a wood stove to keep you warm from October 1 to May 1. We even provide the wood and some fire starters.

LOFT
Another sleeping area is in the loft. There is a queen Helix bed there, a dresser, and a half-bath in the loft

A twin bed with 3 beanbag chairs and a Roku TV are in the secret hideaway room. See if you can find it! There is a skylight in the room, and for night-time, a lamp that shines stars across the room. An air mattress can be set up, also.

There is a twin bed in the nook of the downstairs living room. In addition to an extra place to sleep, it can be used as a day bed for a nice nap or for watching the Roku TV.

OUTSIDE
The front porch runs along the width of the cabin. On the partially covered porch, there are several seating choices, and a pub table for two to enjoy lunch outside. Put some black-oil sunflower seeds out, and squirrels, chipmunks, and birds will come once they get used to you. There is also a propane grill on the porch.

A 6-seat dining table is outside in the yard for enjoying al fresco meals. In the open area of the yard, you can sit outside and enjoy a propane fire, or turn off all the lights and have the most amazing star experience you can imagine. Truly, it’s magnificent.

Once you book, you will receive our digital guest guidebook app that you can add to your phone screen. It has lots of info about the cabin, including amenities, instructions, wifi, safety and rules, and communication with the host. You’ll also find an entire Local Area Attractions section, so you’ll know where to eat, the best hikes, shopping, and day trips.

You can contact the host for anything you can’t find in the guidebook.

This cabin is located just above the foot of Strawberry Mountain, and while there are a few houses nearby, it’s very quiet and secluded. You’ll need 4WD or chains if it’s snowy, but other than that, a regular sedan can easily make it up the hill.

In the winter, we can sometimes get a lot of snow, and the county doesn’t plow it. If we can’t clear it or get someone to clear it, you’ll need 4WD and/or chains to get up the hill and down the driveway. It’s unpredictable how much and when we’ll get snow, and can’t promise that it will be clear. You may want to consider travel insurance from November through March since we don’t offer refunds based on weather. We recommend travel insurance anytime.

There is no fenced yard for your dogs, and we don’t allow you to tether them when you are not with them. Keep your pooches safe; don’t leave them alone outside. That goes for young children as well, there is a steep ravine that runs along the side of the lot.

Important: Before you arrive, you will be asked to purchase damage waiver through third-party provider Superhog. They will contact you via email and/or text to complete the process. Please do so prior to arriving at the property to enable a quick and easy check-in.

Debbie Burney

When I was a child, my Dad’s idea of family fun was to take long, Cowboy & Indian and Pony Express themed drives through the wild west of Arizona. Pine and Payson, (home of the longest continuous Rodeo in the United States) were the halfway point to our family’s favorite watering hole at Oak Creek Canyon. We could always anticipate a stop at the East Verde River or Tonto Natural Bridge for a picnic, before heading to the curvy, crowded campgrounds near the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the drive through scenic Oak Creek Canyon as you pop out among the red rocks of Sedona. It’s magical, but, as busy as it was in the 60’s, today it’s busier, congested and expensive. Pine, on the other hand, hasn’t changed much in 50 years: the scent of the Junipers is reminiscent of that earlier time and at night, you’ll be mesmerized by a celestial blanket, dotted with bright planets and stars. The cricket’s song is nonstop, the air is clean and crisp, and you’ll wish you’d planned for a longer visit.
